Intro to Retro Rewind Podcast

As a podcast fan, I come across people saying they have a podcast, and we should check them out. I'll admit, I am a skeptical person, but if the topic is at all interesting, I try to check them out with an open mind.
Personally, I think we Geeky Christian podcast listeners have an embarrassment of riches, and when this Francisco guy pops up on the CGC and says he runs a podcast and, on top of that, it is a podcast about retro movies and games and such... well, I need to check that out, don't I?
So glad I did.
Francisco Ruiz and Paul J Powers are the hosts, with guests, that definitely pull their own weight, showing up as well. I don't always agree with their conclusions, but they have a cool way of getting to those conclusions.
Now, in a break from my regular style, the guys made a youtube video to answer the 20 questions, and I think it gives an extra bit of insight into their individual identity.  Below, I will put the printed answers, for those who don't like change. I'll just say that the video has a lot more content.

FRANCISCO:
  • 1. Introduce yourselves, what are your names and something about you none of us know?
    • Francisco Ruiz I am a husband, dad, and designer of webs, graphics and maybe some day games. Something that I am pretty sure no one knows is that I go back and forth wondering if I should have an adult baptism, or if be content with my infant baptism.
  • 2. You fellows are a little younger than some of us, for whom “retro” means “anything before Star Wars,”why did you pick 15 years as your defining age for the media you review?
    • 15 years seemed like the minimum amount of time needed to have any real sense of perspective on the "Classic-ness" of a movie or game, while at the same time being recent enough for us to talk about some of our child hood favorites. If Paul and I were the same age, we may have landed on 20 years, but since I am 6 years younger, 15 seemed a bit more inclusive
  • 3. Of the movies you’ve reviewed, which is the best exemplar and worst offender of retro movies?
    • Best example of a retro movie that we have covered I would say is The Last Starfighters - mainly because it was cutting edge at the time and today looks very old school in a pretty good way
    • Worst example - Speed mainly because even for its age of 21 years it still feels like a movie that could come out today as a summer blockbuster,so not very retro
  • 4. You aren’t an explicitly “Christian” podcast, how does your personal faith influence the podcast?
    • I feel like our faith gives us a lense for looking at movies/games, and a grounding for talking about them. The best example I can think of is how we approach movies with sex in them True Lies and Can't Hardly Wait coming to mind. We know God made sex as his awesome gift so it's ok to talk about how it is incorporated in to movies/games, without being either prudish, or raunchy.
  • 5. What is the goal or, to be geeky, quest of your podcast?
    • To let our listeners know what movies or games are worth wasting their precious time with
  • 6. Is there a particular movie or video game that you are looking forward to reaching 15 years old so you can review it?
    • Scott Pilgrim vs the World
  • 7. Forget about retro for a moment, if you were stuck on a deserted island with nothing but a single movie (and the means to watch it) which one would you want it be?
    • Return of the Jedi
  • 8. What is your favorite color?
    • Teal
  • 9. How about sport? What is your favorite sport and team/player from that sport?
    • I honestly want to get into watching Heroes of the Storm as an Esport, but have not had a lot of opportunity to, especially when I have time I usually want to play Heroes
  • 10. Why doesn’t Alice get a vote?
    • There has been no robot or A.I. Sufferage movement yet.
  • 11. Would you rather be able to ride a dragon or an X-wing?
    • X-wing
  • 12. What is your favorite beverage?
    • Spark
  • 13. Who is your favorite musician or music group of all time?
    • Switchfoot
  • 14. If Arnold showed up to your house and told you “Follow me if you want to live,” would you go?
    • I want to say yes but I would want to take my family with me
  • 15. Who is “in charge” when you record your podcast?
    • Hopefully God, but I think I would be the one struggling more for control to be in charge
  • 16. You get turned into a superhero overnight… what do you do with your power?
    • Help in the effort to dig clean water wells
  • 17. If you could live in the “world” of one retro movie or game, which one would that be, and why?
    • Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and getting to live along side toons
  • 18. Besides the Retro Rewind Podcast, what else would you like the listener to know about?
    • If you have listened to the show for a while and want to help grow it, consider giving us a buck or 2 per episode via http://retrorewindpodcast.com/patreon
  • 19. Which do you think is true, A-theory of time, or B-theory of time? A is true for mortal humans, and B is True of God and eternity
  • 20. What is your favorite day of the week?
      • Depends on the week, everyday has an equal shot at being my favorite
