The Silent Partner (Book Review)

Image
Review by Professor Alan Hello, fellow Spirit Bladers, this is Professor Alan of the Quarter-Bin Podcast and Shortbox Showcase, both of which are available at the Relatively Geeky Podcast . Today I am reviewing the novel The Silent Partner by Terrence King. In this book, Homer is a defiant (but not fallen) angel, with a smart mouth and an occasionally shaky opinion of God. She has been in isolation in Heaven for a number of centuries, apart from the other members of the League of Angels, including that snobby Gabriel. But now God has brought her out of her spiritual time-out. He has a critical job on Earth for Homer, and she has only a few days to accomplish it. Her mission is to help struggling magazine columnist Tom Summers get his first novel published. The problem is the ending, but if Homer can get him to change it, and then get it published, it may just change the world. I’ll be honest here, and say that the reason why his novel will change the world i

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Movie Review)

Image
Review by Paeter Frandsen   After the events of Marvel's The Avengers , the government has made security the highest of priorities and the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization has taken it upon themselves to preemptively attack potential dangers to the world. As a primary asset of S.H.I.E.L.D., Steve Rogers, code-named "Captain America," is concerned about this new way of doing business, and wonders more and more if there is any place for him in this strange world of the future he has awoken to after decades in suspended animation. Matters become more complex when S.H.I.E.L.D. becomes compromised and attacked from within. Captain America, along with Natasha Romanoff (aka Black Widow), must figure out who they can trust and where the true evil can be found and confronted. Amidst the chaos and uncertainty, a mysterious assassin appears, who is every bit a match for Captain America, and who also resurrects old ghosts from Steve Rogers' past. The usual supporting

Noah (Movie Review)

Image
Review by Paeter Frandsen   According to Darren Aronofsky's Noah , in the early days of man's history humans waste no time in corrupting themselves and the earth around them. Crime and all kinds of depravity run rampant, seemingly unchecked, and the world itself has become a barren wasteland not unlike post-apocalyptic fiction. Fallen angels called "Watchers" live among humans and bear some of the responsibility for their corruption, since it was they who gave tools and technology to humanity that they were clearly not ready to use wisely. In the midst of this darkness stand Noah and his family, who are the only people left in the world that recognize their responsibilities, under the authority of the Creator, to act as caretakers for the world and its creatures. Noah begins receiving disturbing visions from the Creator that warn of a coming flood that will destroy the world. He is to prepare a vessel that will save those among humans and animals who
