NEWS-NET: Comics ~ Flash Facts...and Rumors

What is NEWS-NET?
NEWS-NET is in part a way for me to highlight a sampling of all the news that interested me recently as I trawl through the Internet. My specific focus is on comics and superheroes especially as they cross over from sequential art into movies, TV shows, and video games.
If you find yourself reading endless blogs and sharing news posts on social media about a topic that would be of particular interest to Christian Geeks, then we at CGC invite you to contribute and become one of the CGC Authors, who share content they are passionate about with the rest of the community. It's impossible to keep up with everything in the Geek world but together we can all help each other in finding the best geek experiences out there. A typical NEWS-NET column would have loads of links to other blogs and reference to find out more about your chosen topic, some pictures and a little commentary about your passion for your topic.
In honor of the long awaited pilot episode of The Flash, this inaugural post of News Net will focus on every fact and rumor I've come across in regards to the casting, production and future of this show.
If you've seen the now released first episode or even seen at least one news post about The Flash, then you know the big names. Grant Gustin debuted as Barry Allen/the once and future Flash in episode 8 and 9 of the CW's Arrow. Gustin was instantly likable. But unless you got the chance to see the pilot episode early, you didn't get to see other key members of his supporting cast until tonight. Except for Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow and Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon (who each may or may not become their comic book counterparts of Killer Frost and Vibe.) Candice Patton fills the role of Barry's love interest, Iris West. But who are we kidding? We know that the characters we most want to see are the metahumans, the newly introduced foray into superpowers in the shared universe that is the DCTVU (currently consisting of Arrow and The Flash, but may come to include more...more on that to come.).
In the pilot episode we see Chad Rook playing Clyde Mardon aka Weather Wizard. Not only that, but Rick Costnett is starring as Eddie Thawne in a reoccurring role. Those comic book fans among you may find that name slightly familiar as the name of one of Barry's most iconic villains is Professor Zoom the Reverse Flash aka Eobard Thawne. In Fact, just this week we received a tweet from Danielle Panabaker revealing a sneak peak at the Yellow and Black clad Reverse Speedster.
In addition to that, we have more to look forward to in the coming episodes. Already one the Flash's most popular Rogues, Captain Cold is set to appear in episode 2 played by Prison Break's Wentworth Miller. See more here.
Ironically, Leonard Snart aka Captain Cold will not share his New 52 counterpart's metahuman abilities. He will instead have the more traditional Cold Guns. In my opinion this is a fantastic sign that the show's producers don't intend to fall into the Smallville Meteor-Freak of the Week trap. Plus you don't cast someone as sympathetic as Wentworth Miller to play a one off role. For the Flash, the Rogues are almost as crucial of a supporting and reoccurring cast as Iris or even Wally "Kid Flash" West.
In a possibly (hopefully-see above comment about the Rogues) intentional twist, Dominic Purcell, also of Prison Break where he played Miller's brother, will be playing fellow Rogue Heatwave.
Other Rogues set to show up are Girder and Blackout. I'm hoping to see Captain Boomerang and the Trickster. I've also heard rumors of the Pied Piper showing up and walking the line between good and bad, mirroring the Geoff Johns written Wally West-Flash days.
But it's not all bad in Central City. The Particle Accelerator didn't give abilities to a bunch of criminals and Barry. Robbie Amell (Cousin of Arrow's Oliver Queen, Steven Amell) is set to play Ronnie Raymond aka one half of the atomic hero Firestorm in episode 3 titled "Things You Can't Outrun". Go HERE for a synopsis of the episode but be forewarned, there be SPOILERS ahead as we find out someone who is supposed to be dead may not be completely so.
Also, plenty of chatter from the Producers including Geoff Johns that the time jumping Booster Gold may make an appearance.
For more on that Rumor and more from the mouths of the Producers themselves, follow this link on ComicBookResources.com
Be on the lookout for episode 8 of the Flash titled "The Flash vs. Arrow" and Arrow episode 8 titled "The Brave and The Bold" as the two shows collide in there first official crossover. Go HERE to read more from the shows Producers.
