The Saga continues...

Image
In 2012 an independent comic entered the scene, simply titled  Saga.  And it rocked my world…. Well, okay, nothing quite so dramatic, but it did jump to the very top of my Favorite Comics list right then and there, forcing a reluctant  Superior Spider-Man  to a close but still second position. So, what's that all about? Story Alana and Marco are star-crossed lovers in more than one sense. Not only do they have to fight for and defend their love and their small family against all kinds of enemies, but they themselves come from different planets – planets which have been at war for generations. From the moment their romance starts they have to keep it a secret, for by entering into their relationship they have mixed races, families and traditions – all of which during a time of war between their planets. As soon as they elope and have a baby girl, they have to be even more careful for it doesn’t take long before several people are after them, and most want them dead rath

NEWS-NET: Comics... Targeting Arrow

Image
Issue 002 Headline:: NEWS-NET: Comics BY TIM O’DONNELL What is NEWS-NET?   NEWS-NET is in part a way for CGC to highlight a sampling of all the news that interested a particular author recently as they trawl through the Internet.  My specific focus is on comics and superheroes especially as they cross over from sequential art into movies, TV shows, and video games.   NEWS-NET is filled with rumors and some spoilers for those who want to be surprised by everything. All spoilers deemed by the author as especially spoiler-y will be clearly marked. TARGETING ARROW   Arrow got started with a bang, or is that a THUNK, last week with the surprised death a major character. I was completely taken by surprise. I had heard rumors that someone was going to die, but this character was not on my short list. And now that this has happened, I think it gives ample motivation for another character to make a change that I just couldn’t see this character having. The point i

Help Kids By Getting Cool Stuff For Yourself!

Spirit Blade Productions and Christian Geek Central are both participating in the October 25th Extra-Life charity event to raise money for children in serious need of medical care.  Our small team of five participants is taking on the task of collecting a combined total of $1000 in donations for this cause. As of writing this we are at 22% of our goal with 11 more days to reach $1000! That's a good start, but we need YOUR help to reach the finish line! And you can even get some cool goodies while supporting the cause!  From now until the end of Sunday, October 26th, every penny received from purchases at the Spirit Blade Productions online store will be donated to the Christian Geek Central Team's fundraising efforts for the Extra-Life charity. So go treat yourself or a friend to some cool goodies and know that you're helping kids who really need it in the process!   There are also special bonuses for those who donate to Paeter Frandsen's personal Extra-Life

Hero or Sidekick?

First of all, let me say that it is great to be back. I have been on hiatus while I transitioned from an administrative role in my church in Mississippi to a pastoral role in a local church in Virginia. The transition has taken longer than I anticipated, but I have a number of notes for posts in the hopper that need a bit of work, but this is one I was able to finish. Hopefully, it will be of help to someone. In the film,  Fools Gold , a character refuses to let himself be called the sidekick. In fact, his line is "I don't think of myself that way. I am the lead character in my own story." This quote reveals an underlying truth in nearly everyone's life: everyone is the hero/star of their own story.   In the live-action version of the superhero satire  The Tick , Arthur bristles  at the notion that he's the Tick's "sidekick." He prefers to be known as his 'partner.' He cannot accept that he might have second billing to someone else.

My specific focus is on comics and superheroes especially as they cross over from sequential art into movies, TV shows, and video games.   If you find yourself reading endless blogs and sharing news posts on social media about a topic that would be of particular interest to Christian Geeks, then we at CGC invite you to contribute and become one of the CGC Authors, who share content they are passionate about with the rest of the community. It's impossible to keep up with everything in the Geek world but together we can all help each other in finding the best geek experiences out there. A typical NEWS-NET column would have loads of links to other blogs and reference to find out more about your chosen topic, some pictures and a little commentary about your passion for your topic.
